'Kobold'
Close Support Aircraft
I tore myself away from the day job long enough to work on a couple pieces for my concept art portfolio. This is the first one, and is a close support/ground attack aircraft that was inspired from a few different sources: RotJ speeder bikes, the Heinkel He-162 Volksjager, and the general aesthetic of Kow Yokoyama's mechanical designs. It started off as a pencil sketch, which was scanned in Photoshop and placed on a multiply layer. I kept the sketch a little loose and dirty as an experiement. I blocked in color on the layer beneath, then duplicated it as another multiply layer. I placed the new multiply layer above the layer of flat color and erased out the highlights. I painted in some highlights on the layer above this. The techniques are pretty straightforward, so I might do up a tutorial based on this piece sometime. |
